The user manager page allows you to add, delete and manage users on the ClearOS system.

If you [[Software Modules|install a module]] that depends on users/groups, this feature will automatically be installed as well.

==== User Overview ====
The first thing you will see on the user manager page is a summary of existing users.  This summary includes the username, name and the enabled applications for each user.  The core applications on ClearOS include:

  * {{icon-email.png|}} Mailbox
  * {{icon-web.png|}} OpenVPN 
  * {{icon-pptpd.png|}} PPTP Server
  * {{icon-proxy.png|}} Proxy Server
  * {{icon-web.png|}} Web Server share
  * {{icon-samba.png|}} Windows networking

<note>The application options will only appear if the specific application is installed</note>

==== User Information ====
When adding or editing a user, you must configure the following fields:

  * Username
  * First name
  * Last name
  * Password

In addition, you can also:

  * Configure optional fields such as telephone number, address, title, and more.  
  * Select the permitted applications for the user.
  * Specify [[groups|group membership]] on the system.

==== Passwords ====
The password specified for the user must follow these rules:

  * Starts with a letter or number
  * Must not contain the following characters: | ;

==== Secure Shell (SSH) ====
Secure Shell (SSH) access for users is rarely required and should be considered only for trusted users.  To enable this option in the web-based account manager, add or change the following parameter in /etc/system/webconfig:

  allow_shell = 1
