DNS CNAME Records and Alias Records

Table of Contents

Overview

CNAME records (Canonical Name records) act as aliases for hostnames. For instance, you can alias www.example.com to www.example.org. Please review the DNS Primer for more help on DNS records.

Activation

  • Login to your ClearCenter account.
  • Click on DNS DNS Records CNAME Records in the top navigation bar.

Configuration

To add CNAME records to your account:

  • Specify a subdomain name (this can be blank)
  • Select the domain from the drop-down list
  • Specify the target domain for the given subdomain.domain combination

Aliasing one primary domain to another domain is not recommended when mail is involved. For example, mapping example.com to anotherexample.com is not recommended
