Remote Server Backup

Overview

There are two elements to Remote Server Backup - configuration and data. Configuration backs up the configuration of the ClearOS installation so that in case of an upgrade, failure or replacement, you can upload the configuration settings into the new installation to get it back online quickly. Data backup preserves the entire customer data set off-site so that it too can be restored quickly. Both configuration and data backup are critical to disaster recovery and business continuity.

Requirements

  • ClearOS Enterprise 5.1 or higher
  • The Remote Server Backup module must be installed on your system

Activation

  • Login to your account
  • Click on Systems > Remote Server Backup in the top navigation bar
  • Select the target system from the list of active systems in your account
  • Select a subscription from the drop down list and make sure the service is enabled.

Setup

All the data stored on the ClearSDN Remote Server Backup system is encrypted. Not even ClearSDN software engineers can unencrypt the data! To encrypt the data, the first thing you need to do is set a security key. This key is used to encrypt the data – without the key you will not be able to restore a backup. Please, do not forget your security key.

Configuration

The Remote Server Backup solution offers a number of configuration options to suit the needs of your network.

Defaults - Files and Directories

You can select the files and directories to have in your backup. Whether it is files stored in your Flexshares or mail on your ClearOS server, you can make your selection in just a few clicks.

Backup

Once you have configured your backup configuration, you can create a snapshot. On the Backup tab in the webconfig interface, click on the Backup Now button. Keep an eye on the Status area in webconfig to view the progress of the backup. Initializing the backup for the first time may take time, and there is no need to wait for it to complete. If you have enabled notifications, then you will get an e-mail when the backup is complete. You can always come back to webconfig at a later time to review the Status area.
