Spamkiller uses several methods to find and block unwanted emails. Blacklists block known URLs and IP addresses that have sent out spam. Users report spammers and the lists get larger over time. OCR (optical character recognition) will also scan html and images to submit words to the contextual word search list. Additionally Spamkiller flags suspect emails for users to review.

How Spamkiller Works

Webfilter has two main functions - white/grey/black lists and contextual analysis. White/grey/black list is a list of URLs with approved urls(white), URLs analyzed by content (grey), and blocked (black) sites. Webfilter lists should be maintained consistently because new pages are created, old sites are taken down and current sites change. Enabling the Webfilter Update service, gives you regular updates to the lists. With Webfilter contextual analysis approved sites that create inappropriate content can be blocked. Webfilter updates are created by human editors, not by automated computer "spiders". This makes it very accurate.
